It confounds one to no end when taking into consideration how the trumplings say that their immaculate dear-leader is unfairly depicted by media. WTF could they possibly be talking about? It's not slander to play recordings of what a person ACTUALLY SAYS, on tape! He vomits out his maniacal rambling hogwash at such a high rate that one would need cherry-pick to find AN INTELLIGIBLE, SANE statement...not so for the bad ones. There's a constant barrage of backwards, false, and fraudulently nonsensical claims & statements from him, in plain view, on tape to fill the grand canyon! How do they not see?? Denial is a powerful human trait, to be sure.

trump is slowly turning the US into NORTH KOREA. We already spend more on defense than the next 7 military budgets in the world.INCLUDING Russia and China and 5 of our allies. Add this to his proposed Healthcare Bill, the US would fast become a 3rd world country.

Cutting the budget of the EPA and State department isn't a cost saving measure just from the perspective of removing government funds. By removing their ability to inn-act policies this allows the free market to prevail. This in turn generates more jobs and in turn more tax revenue from said jobs. It's fine that John Oliver wants to make jokes at Trump's expense but when he tries to simplify policies and obfuscate complicated ideas into punchlines he's doing a disservice to his audience who takes his word as gospel.

There's already 8k+ comments here so this comment will be buried to the bottom immediately but for the maybe 1 - 2 people that read this please watch some videos about Milton Friedman and free market capitalism. John Oliver is essentially pro-socialism and it's kind of scary that so many people have bought into this ideology.

We have the most powerful military since the Roman Empire. We have an old nucleur weapons systems and so do the Russians. Theirs are in a much worse state than our's. Most of our nukes are sub and bomber based to begin with. So as usual Trump is full of shit.

These criticisms coming from a show that reported about our antiquated nuclear program and the siphoning of public funding by special districts.

I usually like this show because it satirizes American media and its role in politics and our daily lives. I liked that most of the reports made were about overlooked problems spinning wildly out of control, like Scientific Studies and Sex Education. And it would give amazingly thorough examples. Often times these problems were independent of the parties, meaning they were ignored because solving them wouldn't secure votes or maintain the status quo.

Recently, since Trump entered politics, it's changed. Now it's basically just reporting about all the ridiculous things Trump says. First, this is about a wish list that needs to get approved by Congress something that traditionally never happens. Second, showing only 5 programs whose budget adds up to .22% of the national budget also doesn't make fiscal sense. That is to say, all the cuts add up to the increases proposed...obviously. This especially doesn't make sense after showing all of the programs proposed to be cut earlier in the show.
Second, Trump based his campaign on the single principle that all press is good press. This principle has proven to be true, because he won with seemingly very little effort. Hillary, the stronger political candidate, lost the same way Nixon, also the stronger political candidate, lost to JFK: by underestimating the power of the media on the American voter. That is to say, the media is ironically responsible for the election results which they deplore as the worst thing ever, including John Oliver.

Personally I see nothing wrong with basing the presidential budget proposal on the speeches made during his campaign. I see nothing wrong with a politician making massive changes regardless of voter opinion or being concerned about reelection. This is what the American people voted for. Obama was elected on a promise of CHANGE. We wanted him to do what Trump is doing, and he would have been better at it. But he didn't. Now we have this and it is absolutely frightening. Luckily we have checks and balances so that Trump doesn't do anything too extreme or "nation breaking." There won't be a second holocaust.

Um, most of the airports in fly over country are entirely too expensive to use. I will drive to Milwaukee or Chicago rather than use the local airport. Why? Because it costs up to $300 or $400 more per person to fly out of small rural airports like the one about three miles from my house, no matter how early you book the flight. Why spend $500 per person to fly when you can drive to Milwaukee and park there for $7 a day and then fly out of there for $200 per person? Our local airport is mostly just a toy for the rich and the business community. If they want to have a local airport, have them pay for it.

Furthermore, if it cuts one dollar out of my taxes to not pay for "public tv" and Mapplethorpe Exhibits, all the better. Of course it doesn't hurt a tv millionaire like Jon Oliver to pay a little more in taxes. It's all the rest of us middle class people it really hurts.

In an environment of money supply inflation, government gets fewer purchasing power trough taxation, so it needs to focus on core business - military protection. Same as any other company confronted with drying revenue. Inflated money goes to financial casino, to save the gambling economy. So in a way Gov. added third business to military and welfare-state - big scale gambling at the expense of welfare-state. Work ethics will increase, personal responsibility will increase, in the lower and middle class, but decline in top classes of gamblers.
