Congressman: 'Nobody Dies’ From Lack Of Healthcare

  • Added:  3 months ago
  • Rep. Raúl R. Labrador is a corporate lapdog who cares about his donors' wallets more than his voters' lives. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"A conservative Republican congressman from Idaho is drawing criticism for his response to a town-hall attendee’s concerns about how his party’s health-care bill would affect Medicaid recipients.

“You are mandating people on Medicaid to accept dying,” the woman said.

“That line is so indefensible,” said Rep. Raúl R. Labrador, a member of the influential House Freedom Caucus. “Nobody dies because they don’t have access to health care.”

The boos instantly drowned him out.

The town hall meeting occurred at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, a day after Labrador and 216 other Republicans in the House narrowly passed the American Health Care Act, which would overhaul the country’s health-care system.”*

I am from idaho and I hate the fact that we are a republican state these guys are for the rich screw the poor but they need ALL THEIR PERKS LIKE NEW CARS supplied to them and all the other under the table payoffs

Coming from a guy who has all the healthcare and benefits from his government job. Wow America - you are so behind all the rest of your allies. In Canada, I break my ankle, I hobble away with no bill. Cancer. All the treatment possible - free. Are we perfect - no. Canada does not have universal drug coverage, but it is a topic of debate. In the USA, you are going backwards on healthcare. The higher taxes we pay as Canadians for health coverage and peace of mind is so worth it.

More sad than angry now because this stupid comment made me wanna cry ... Yes, diseases or accidents kill people technically, but isn't it what the medicine is for? A little help can save so many lives from totally curable conditions, and they will definitely continue working for the rich and pay taxes for the rest of their lives, if you need a worthy reason for your donors. Does these politicians know there are people who just can't afford to see a doctors?

Congressman must be joking, like the old well known: nobody dies from a thousand foot fall, it's the sudden stop that's the problem or can't die from falling off a 300" tall tower if only are 3" off the ground when you fall.

Essentially the Congressman may be correct to say "nobody dies from lack of Healthcare", but that would be true should Trumpcare NOT get passed, because of our current healthcare system people are not dying. It will be first time for everything, under Trumpcare, people will be dying, and it is the result of the lack of healthcare (look at the contents of its proposal where it would list what is not included in its bill).

These are the sort of signs of a dying govt, further inequity, less social services, More money in the rich's pocket, less in the poor's. that's how the R-party works. The strong Christians get hooked on the abortion issue, then the party is down on social services and helping the poor, which goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Hypocritical. Abortion should never be a presidential platform. It is up to the supreme courts and lawmakers within individual states/counties to change such things. Poor Christians at least need to realize this and that presidentially defunding abortions by defunding planned parenthood, also defunds the other services they provide which are not abortion related. I would be fine with taking away funding strictly from abortion and letting it be user supported, yet defunding planned parenthood entirely is the result of propaganda from the church or R-party telling voters anything they can to get their way, even if it means hurting people and society as a whole. When the needs of the few outweigh the many, gameover. Restart. Install Revolution 2.0

The next day when he realized that he had made a mistake he clarified by saying the law requires that hospitals help you and they are not changing that law. So by his logic people without healthcare should just go to the hospital...because waiting until you are deathly ill to get emergency care at a hospital is efficient. :/ I am totally disgusted by the callousness of this man and many of his colleagues who believe healthcare is a privledge afforded to the rich.

All they had to do was appeal to white racism to get white folk to cut off their own health care, to fund huge tax cuts for the top wealthy 1%.

You can get anything from white folk by simply demonising other races. Same thing happened with ''the Wall''. Many Trump voters now have their homes under threat of govt takeover to make way for the Wall, and they are up in arms about it. Foolish people.

the american healthcare system is so absurd to me, if an american twist their ankle they go bankrupt, i didn't have to pay a dime when i sprained my ankle, not when i got x-rayed, not when i got en evaluation from the doctor and a nurse, not for the bandages they put on it, not even for the mighty fine crunches that i think might still be in my basement, they never asked for them back. I just had to tell them my person number and it's all free except for the cab.
my mom's a doctor and atm she's complaining all the time because they're getting a new computer system to deal with patients. The problem is that it's and american system and it's made to log down every single tiny expense from getting in IV to a band-aid to how many times the nurse was called to how many hours and minutes they were in a bed, all so the hospital can print it all out on a bill the patient has to pay for from their own pocket. Of course we still don't have to pay, they just want to log the expenses to see where they can save and improve the system, but it scares me so much to think about how it must feel to be an american without a health insurance who gets put in the hospital and is trapped there knowing the bill is getting longer and longer by the minute.
