I'm not watching Doctor Who again. Not because I'm sexist, but because for me the Doctor was always a male character - always meant to be one from start to finish. This is like replacing Daniel Craig with Kate Winslet for the part of James Bond.

Well, that's the BBC killed off their two biggest shows (Top Gear and this) and it's reputation in just 2 years.

    Absolute idiots.

This is going to wreck what's left of this social justice warrior infected series. It's been death by a thousand cuts and now we have this final sword thrust right through the heart of the series.
Sure the BBC has a captive revenue stream from the TV tax that is forcibly stolen from the subjects of the UK but they're going to lose their shirt on other venues such as cable TV in the states.
They may get a spike of viewers due to SJW types watching the show but they'll quickly get bored. After that the ratings will tank.

To those _militant feminist_ women who never watched the original series and started advocating for a female Doctor after getting into the show's revival: Just because you started watching the show in 2005 and enjoyed "flicking your beans" to David Tennant and Matt Smith, doesn't give you the right to raise your "feminism flag" and claim the show as yours by usurping the main role in spite of all the other fans.

Hmmmm. A castrated Doctor. Well, technically he's been castrated for some time now. The feminist, male bashing control has been rampant for quite a while. I want to see the new sonic. Will it be the first sonic lip-shtick dispenser??

*I'd like to thank the British for making me realize that we Americans were wrong in sacrificing millions of our countrymen's lives to support them through several wars because ultimately, all we did was enable them to desecrate and destroy their own culture, sovereignty and identity for their own sanctimonious, leftist reasons. What a waste of human life*

Time Lords changing their sex was first referenced in Series 6 Ep 4 The Doctor's Wife, here's a bit of said reference "The mark of The Corsair. Fantastic bloke. He had that snake as a tattoo in every regeneration. Didn’t feel like himself unless he had that tattoo. Or herself a couple of times. Oo hoo! She was a bad girl!" And that episode aired (I think) 14th May 2011, so people have had 6 years to wrap their heads around the idea that The Doctor may one day be a female so why it's so shocking to some now its actually happened is beyond me. I intend to still watch the show as I'm a true fan. Can't wait Til Jodie's first full episode, I bet it'll be great!

Let's give it a shot. I guess that's the point of a show like this: anyone can play the doctor. As long as they don't mention she's a woman every tenth second and talk about sexism we should be fine. Let's give her a chance, see if she's good and believable and then judge. There's no point in trashing it before you've seen it. I'm probaly going to have a problem with the doctor being a woman because he's always been a man. I don't know if I can see her as the doctor. But as said: we'll see. Let's give her a chance.

Sadly this will be my last season with the doctor. I have been watching Doctor Who for 30+ and that has come to a halt. I have no problem with strong female leads. In fact my current favorite show is izombie. If the lead suddenly grew a penis because of the zombie virus I would drop the show in a heart beat. I have a feeling that the new season of Doctor Who starts strong but ends with terrible viewership.

To the people complaining about feminism in Doctor Who let me ask you this. When has the Doctor not been a feminist? He's all about equality among all people and how one group can never look down on another. Its like he told Bill. Time Lords moved past your dull perception of gender eons ago.

    • Here's Yo Smoothie!
Here's Yo Smoothie! 2 hours ago

Fair point. To me taking feminism too far includes what you mentioned. But also what I guess I'm really trying to get at here is the fact that feminism is a theme that's just everywhere, and to me, everywhere is just too much. IMO feminism has pretty much done all the work that was needed in Western Civilization, and the only places that really need feminism are those places where women are considered at fault for being rape victims, female witnesses in court only count if a man can back up her claim, that sort of stuff. Otherwise, at this point feminism has become, I believe, an old, played-out theme that's becoming a bit of an earsore. So when stuff is done in the name of feminism or inclusion or whatever, stuff that wasn't necessary or otherwise beneficial to begin with, it's just more of the same, and it's become tiresome. I'm a woman myself and a huge fan of Doctor Who, but part of the reason I love the show is because it's a form of escapism from real-world issues. I don't watch DW to think about politics. Even if there's an issue that I think is really important and needs to be talked about, I still don't want it penetrating every area of my life. I don't think women need to be included in Doctor Who by having the Doctor be a woman, women aren't by any means excluded by having consistently male protagonist in a show, and I could go into the reasons why I think it's a bad idea even if it didn't taste of redundant feminism, but this wall of words is too long already, sorry xD

    • Mrpanda8000
      Mrpanda8000 19 hours ago

Here's Yo Smoothie! To me when I think taking feminism too far its when it encroaches on other peoples rights. The writers could end up making the new Doctor a mistake by constantly acknowledging gender but as it stands making the Doctor female does nothing but include more people.

    • Here's Yo Smoothie!
Here's Yo Smoothie! 1 day ago

There's good feminism, and there's bad feminism. When people don't want the doctor to be female, isn't necessarily anti-feminist, it's anti-taking-it-too-far.

62% vote up and 38% vote down. (give or take)
that's a lot either side of the argument. if these numbered could reflect viewers, like an election poll. then they would seriously drop.

''The Doctor Falls'' had 5.29 million viewers in the UK, 38% could mean a drop off by (give or take) 2 million viewers. if so it wouldn't beat any episode from series 10.

I doubt that would actually happen though, let see ;)

I don't understand why a female doctor is going to "change doctor who for the worst". I think you're forgetting it was originally written and directed by a woman and a gay Indian man in the '60s. So if it weren't for that woman you would have nothing to make your sexist remarks on!

    2. Expect a Ginger Doctor or him pointing it out that he's still not ginger
    3. And here comes the bad kind of feminism marching in to ruin our day

the people complaining that the new doctor is a woman will be the first to sing her praises no doubt. i have no problem with it, i always felt like the doctor was a pretty gender fluid character anyway, unlike bond. a female bond would be to drastically change the character, she would never get away with all the sleeping around etc that james bond does without being labelled a slut, or bold in some way. the doctor on the other hand, nothing really has to be rewritten to accommodate a woman, no major character differences. im interested to see what they come up with. no doubt if this goes well the next doctor will also be a woman, only hopefully we can go one step further and they wont be white, perhaps asian or black. a racially diverse female doctor who. now thats progress. peace :)

I thought they were going to do something quite clever once David Bradley turned up in the finale after Capaldi said he didn't want to be sombebody else and have the next regeneration be a 'de-regeneration', a regression. Give us a single series with David Bradley as the 1st/13th Doctor. But no, overestimated their imagination.

I love how all the papers are shouting about how most of the fans are for the new doctor being a female (based on limited polls) but then you go on YouTube and just under half the ratings for the reveal videos are negative... Where exactly did they conduct these polls?

Fairly annoyed that Doctor who has gone this way, but I'll get over it. However I'm furious that they're lying about the response and silencing the against crowd. Everyone would have reacted the same way if they'd have picked a bad male actor yet the media coverage wouldn't have covered up the complaints.

I think one of the bigger problems with having a female doctor is the fact that will encourage people to look down on the female companions in order to artificially magnify the significance of the doctor being female. You can already see this happening in some pretty insidious ways.
