  • Patricia Arquette accepts GLAAD’s Vanguard Award at the 28th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on April 1. During her moving speech, Arquette speaks about her late sister Alexis, the importance of trans visibility, and sends the resounding message to “allow our humanity to reach us towards respect, tolerance, faith in each other and acceptance.” She also called out Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice for not responding to a letter from sex Democratic members of Congress including Joe Kennedy III and Barbara Lee which called on Sessions and the Department of Justice to launch a federal hate crime investigation into the pattern of murders of transgender women. At the time of the letter, seven trans women were murdered this year – and last week one more brought the count to eight. Luke Perry and Jeffrey Tambor were on hand to present Arquette with the accolade.

The Vanguard Award is presented to media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance of LGBTQ people. Watch the full broadcast on Logo Thursday April 6 at 10/9c.

it is ironic cause instead of spreading a good message we all know lgbt is just getting thrown at us all the time that just makes a complete 360 out of it and makes us hate it even more!

I love this speech. Her sister Alexis was a trans pioneer. And this is definitely not the time to be silent.
