In this segment of On Location, Coyote finds an elusive Mole Cricket!

Have you ever wondered what insects are making all that loud screeching at night? Well to find out usually all you need to do is grab a simple flashlight and follow the sound until you find the little screamer. However sometimes you can be looking right at the source of the noise and see nothing at all…how can this be?

Well in these rare instances what you’ve usually stumbled upon is a chirping Mole Cricket, and just like the name suggests these crickets are diggers and live most of their lives underground and out of sight.

Coyote’s goal on this adventure will be to find an exposed Mole Cricket and try a little experiment to show you just how well these subterranean insects can burrow!

Get ready to see the Cricket you never knew existed!

Hmm. I think she wasn't burrowing bc there wasn't a reason for her to. You said the males hang out in their burrows and call to the females right? So maybe since she didn't feel threatened, only wanted to escape the bright lights she ran rather than burrow. Burrowing would have been pointless as you could have caught her before she submerged as aposed to running, where she had a greater chance of getting away.
