Scott crapped all over his Alien legacy, and is now about to take a dump on Blade Runner. As for the director, Arrival had some very weak moments (the cliched and disappointing terrorist bomb plot device). These trailers don't bode well for the film. I think it's going to be pedestrian exercise but will do well at the box office, which is not saying much.

Half of these people either didn't watch the original, let alone the directors cut. Or they simply don't understand it. I hope it stays true to the monologue narration, the still shots of a beautiful set up scene, the long "boring" talks they have and how their "boring" reactions play out. It's called character development, I think they were vague on the characters for a purpose. Everyone complains about trailers reveling too much or how it shows the best parts in the movie. Now a Blade Runner sequel trailer comes out and doesn't show the whopping moments in the movie only to be recognized as "Oh yeah man this scene is the one I saw in the trailer" when your half way done in the movie. Movie is gonna be an instant classic.

Does not hold a CANDLE to Blade Runner (1982).  You couldn't possibly make an improved version of Blade Runner 1982.  Turns my stomach to think that anyone would try.

Oww hell yeah . Don't care what people say you can't make a sequel of a cult classic and not have haters. If this is the closest they can come to the original I'll take it! Oh yeah when the original first came out lots of critics blamed it for having "to many special effects" and "a bad script" to. This ain't the Ghostbusters remake. They didn't scrap it all to come up with something completely different not holding to the original and no I'm not talking about the female cast.

    • ActivistArts
      ActivistArts 8 days ago

Jesus Christ you moron....I KNOW. He directed the original Alien movies and ruined the franchise with the reboot. He is going to ruin Blade Runner by turning it into another franchise that doesn't need to be a franchise. He lost his way and is not as good as he was. He purposefully cuts out meaningful scenes to leave the audience confused and it just wrecks the story.

In case someone didn't realized yet, the previous "Blade runner" was nominated so many times among "best whatever" and has implied so many applications and influenced so many cultural phenomenons that I'd not even care to mention all of them. Does someone really believe that Ridley Scott can outdo himself now, after the "Promethius" and so on? Do you really? Some things need to be just left along. Just like this.

  • Ross Reyes

MY PLOT THEORY = Harrison Ford and Sean Young had a half human/half replicant Baby played by Sylvia Hoeks in the new film. This new human/replicant is the basis for Jared Leto's mad scientist attempt to engineer the next evolution of humans.

Refuse to watch this - It looks like heretical junk in every respect. Maybe I'm just nostalgic or old-school, but I'm not interested in trendy actors and over-baked plots. Just look at it - It's got all the hallmarks of cheap imitation, meant as a commercial cash grab. Full of fake CGI and shallow characters. Too fast, too overwhelming, too forced, too many explosions, not enough love or personality to it.

Blade Runner was an Original that cannot be replicated (intended) - A saudade meditation and study in cyberpunk atmosphere lovingly crafted through deliberate slow pacing, careful visual design (Syd Meade), pain-staking perspective shots, old-school special effects, and analog synth-wave meant to mimic orchestral movements, done by a master (Vangelis). It created a sense of beautiful loneliness, isolation, and melancholy, of a living breathing futuristic city. You could smell the rain and neon in every scene. It created an emotional depth greater than the sum of its production parts.

Moreover, the actors were participants who spoke little, and their dialogue left space to breathe in between sentences, allowing the viewer to soak up each scene. The underlying theme was they were dealing with an existential crisis that was bigger than themselves - there was no-one to blame, no real enemy - almost a tragedy of sorts. And yet they could
have been anyone on the street - you or me.

I'll leave you with this - to "get" what Blade Runner is all about, what I'm talking about here - One only needs listen to Vangelis' Blade Runner Blues, while keeping the spectacular visuals in mind. It is truly one of a kind Sci-Fi Noir movie that was inspired by the culture and technology of decade it lived in (1980s), and its vision of the future still echoes with us today. I highly doubt this sequel can live up to it, and nor should it - You don't mess with a classic.

The first Blade Runner was awesome precisely because it was a dark, moody, noir trip _that did NOT appeal to the lowest common denominator <cough>Siskel&Ebert<cough>._

In fact, everything that made the original so incredible, caused it to BOMB at the theaters and it was only kept alive by people like me (yes, the hard core OG fanbois) wearing out our Beta copies with repeated viewings until the masses caught on 10-15 years after it's release.

They've basically turned the tale into a formulaic action movie cash grab that appears to look and flow no different than "Elysium" or the "Total Recall" and "Judge Dredd" remakes.

Yeah, I'll definitely check it out on Kodi (eventually), but if these trailers are any indication, there's NO WAY "2049" will be even REMOTELY on par with the original.

I dont think the trailer overlords would have let the trailer not be punchy, jaunty, and edgyin a non-blade runner way, its coaxing folks to the theatre. I was underwhelmed by the music, and some visuals, others, pretty excited about. A little ad the lighting in general isnt more stylistic scene to scene, but honestly that may be due to the digital filming for film being used (not sure which)I really hate how sharp things look, especially textures, there is too much going on visually and things are either too bright or too dark. Thats films in the past 15 years or so and general, though.
