Hey I have this puzzle, it's really fun to mess with.
Also, I discovered there are two ways to reassemble it.
    Great vid!

That's cool! I'll have to take a look at the puzzle again to see that! That makes the design even more impressive!

Actually I remembered it a bit different and now I feel a bit dumb.
I guess it's still two solutions.
You know how you need to twist the two parts? Well there is one piece that can be on either of them.

a question where do u buy ur puzzles?

    • FLEB
      FLEB 3 months ago

I've collected them over the course of about 10 years, from various one-off puzzle events, private puzzle auctions, specialty puzzle shops, and also places like Amazon and Ebay.

This one is particular came in a collection of Hanayama puzzles I bought from Puzzlemaster, an online puzzleshop based in Canada!

I work in a puzzle shop and we sell Hanayama casts, this is actually my favorite one along with Padlock which is really complex and the new, recently out, cast Infinity.
I love the weight of it and the way you can just play with it mindlessly when on the computer even after you already know the solution.

Kevin Cheong Hanayama-Toys.com comes right up...but to order, they offer their shops in Japan and Hong Kong, or distributors in SFO, Victoria or Saskatoon. I think the trick must be to buy a sample set or 4 from the distributors, then look at the event galleries to consider a promotional lot of 500 as business cards or logo-laden gifts. The metal toys people are neat.

One of the thing you didn't mention was the fact that the puzzle is actually asymmetric, there is only one single configuration from which you can take it out, otherwise it would have been probably too easy to take apart.

    • FLEB

Right! Taking it apart, mixing up the pieces, and then putting it back together is very challenging!

The pieces are actually tapered! So after a certain amount of sliding they can't move any further.

    Another great video Fleb!
I often see puzzles like these, and think to myself ''that can't be too hard, right?'', and then i see the solution, and knowing i would never manage to get it ^^.
How long did it take for you to solve this one?

    • FLEB
      FLEB 7 months ago

      Thank you!

It took me about an hour to solve this puzzle. At first I was very confused and thought there might be some internal parts that needed to be understood to solve it. (Hopefully I’ll be able to show an example of this soon, but there are a lot of puzzles that work like this.)

Once I realized that each one was a solid chunk of metal, the next step is to figure out how it might come apart. I figured that it had to be some sort of rotation move, so I started trying it with one piece. When that didn’t work, I tried it with two pieces and one of the combinations worked.

According to Hanayama, this is a 5/6 on their difficulty scale. I would agree with that. Although putting it back together after you’ve mixed up the pieces is much harder than taking it apart!
