I live in Kobe now, and I tell everyone who visits that Kobe is the "one day city." Everything can be seen/done in a single day haha. Also, I call that Starbucks in Kitano the "Harry Potter Starbucks" because the inside of it reminds me of the Hogwarts Gryfindor common room!

120$ for a shinkansen ride is so expensive for us over here. I was lucky to have that bullet train pass for tourists when i went there but it was still expensive :/

In Europe you can fly around to a far city for less. I think that transportation in Japan is very expensive compared to here in Europe

The one hour hike up to the herb gardens was really nice! Good exercise and you get to be really close to the waterfall. Unfortunately, I didn't do enough research ahead of time because we went in the afternoon and by the time we got to the top, the garden and ropeway was closed.
I went to a restaurant near Kobe station I think for Kobe beef. Found the restaurant by chance. It was around 10000 yen for a dinner set that came with an appetizer, salad, beef main course with rice, and dessert. It was so delicious!

I live in Rokko which is like a 30 minute drive from Sannomiya and youre right, sightseeing in Kobe for one day is definitely doable. In my honest opinion, theres not many places to go or see in Kobe, other than Harborland and eating Kobe beef (just to say you've had it). Even visting Sannomiya is not really worth it if you've been to or planning to go to Osaka where theres SO MUCH more things to do/see/shop/eat. Also, because Kobe was a major port city, theres a lot of international companies located there compared to other cities and their presence is quite visible. For example, the cars in Kobe are surprisingly full of BMWs, Mercedes, Porsche etc. and its not just because its an affluent area per se, but also because thats just where the cars come from and they're a lot easier/cheaper to get a hold of. My main point is, because Kobe was the main port in Japan that frequently traded with the West, you will not see and experience a lot of traditional Japanese sights or culture, and its also definitely not a "modern" enough city like Tokyo. Its still a lovely city and people here are extremely kind, especially compared to people around Osaka, but if you had to condense the number of places to visit in Japan due to time or money constraints, I suggest crossing out Kobe imo lol

Tokyo several times and I've also been to Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima. I enjoyed the Kobe video and the beef looked great although it seemed a little pricey. Hi Angela, thanks for the great video. I would like to ask do you take the Ropeway from Shin-Kobe Station and the Ropeway will lead you all the way to Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens? Next, you went to Kitano Street by walking for about 10mins. So from Kitano Street, did you take a hiking walk back down to Shin-Kobe Station or did you take the Ropeway down? Also, I understand that Kobe is famous with their beef. Does most shop serves chicken/pork/fish + kobe beef as well? Tia!

Since my last visit to Kobe last year, i visited moriya - which is also a famous kobe beef restaurant. The staff told me (i don't know whether it's true), all kobe beefs over 10000+yen only are made from Japan. Thus, lunch sets kobe beef that below 10000 yen are imported from Australia. I don't know whether your sets are from Australia or Japan since it's different restaurant.

it's the standard maybe if your standard is crap. Literally any other place in Kobe will crush it. It isn't even a good place by general restaurant standards.

    • Alan Sugano
      Alan Sugano 3 months ago

Steakland is the standard where all the other Kobe steak houses aspire or want to be compared to. They cater to the tourist industry so there are always a steady stream of tour groups with reservation who take up most of the tables. The service is spotty , yes, but generally decent. Steak is steak, as all the restaurants get their beef from the same ranches. The price is inexpensive so that is why Steakland is so popular. You can't go wrong dining here. Also you can't go wrong dining elsewhere. You get the Steakland experience wherever you go. Think tourist only environment as locals don't dine around Sannomiya Station for steak.

I just bought a video editor so I can put up the videos and photos of my 2 weeks in Japan (Nishinomiya, Kobe, Osaka, Omachi, Lake Kizaki, Matsumoto and Karuizawa), but I can see what I have for footage and what you have are much different. Yours look great! Mine kinda stink. But I was in the Harbor area to check out the shops and ride the ferris wheel. I was there during the day and now regret not staying to see the lights at night. This is the first video of yours I have seen. I will subscribe and watch all your work. Looking forward to them all!
