Gotta See It: Kessel floats puck over net, Hornqvist bats it out of air and in

  • Added:  4 months ago
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins are an offensively gifted team, and this goal is a prime example of their depth as Phil Kessel and Patric Hornqvist hook up for an amazing and possible goal of the year candidate.

You clearly don't understand the rule that if it's below the crossbar it's not a high stick on the puck. I'm guessing either a bruins fan or flyers fan? Maybe lightning fan?

    • Jade The Messenger
Jade The Messenger 4 months ago

Scremler 2016 those are called hockey sticks, not clubs.

and with golf, the focus is to get the ball in a hole in the ground, not a net. and in golf you're not running around trying to hit for score like hockey. so, hockey really shouldn't be looked at as golf on ice.

Waiting for a lacrosse-type goal. Whether it's Crosby or Hornqvist here, Pens seem to be quite adept at batting puck in mid-air and finding a way to score.

0:45 - pretty clear it was an accident. phil trying to pass it back to hornqvist, and it bounces on him

    • Bwana2020
      Bwana2020 4 months ago

TickTak77 - No, you're wrong. Kessler did EXACTLY what he was trying to
do. He put the puck in front of the net for a shot. Sure, he got a
nice bounce so it made it easier for him to pick it up.
And Hornquist was alert, got in position for an opportunity and pulled the trigger... and got just enough of a piece of it to deflect it in.

By " it bounces off of him", do you mean Reimer? He was understandably frustrated since the deflection caught him by surprise and he narrowly missed his chance to block or catch it. He was flopping around like a fish out of water trying to stop it, but at that close of a range and in those pads it's pretty hard to get to it!

However, by your reasoning, 60% of goals are "...clear[ly] accidents" since they involve a degree of probabilities that every other sport involves to some extent, whether it be football, basketball, table tennis, ... even poker or dominos!

    • MikeKaruba
      MikeKaruba 4 months ago

That part was accidental, but Hornquist's play was all skill and awareness.
