4:45 I respectfully disagree. Modern graphics cards made by reputable manufacturers will have a quiet and efficient fan. Some even have a Zero fan mode those times when the card is not put under load.

I think you should have used a standard layout and liquid cooling setup How on Earth can you upgrade the GPU in that case?

This is a beautiful case and machine but there is a huge problem. That open power supply is extremely dangerous. Even if you turn off and unplug it, the capacitors can store a lethal amount of charge. Be very careful about ever touching that area of the machine.

I would have gone with a big liquid cooler at the bottom of the case, and then cpu and gpu connected to that. Then moved air intake and outtake through the case as per normal, but on the quiet side.

  • WatchMeSayStuff
    WatchMeSayStuff 19 days ago

The case around the power supply isn't so much due to safety concerns but to meet FCC regulations. The actual RF noise produced by a power supply isn't enough to concern the consumer, but the FCC has very strict standards that manufacturers have to meet.

What heatsinks did you use? I cant seem to find anything in the price range (100GBP for the whole case, wich is 20 in fans and at least 30 for the material, wich means 25 for each heatsink). The closest thing I found in half an hour is the "Megahalems".

+DIY Perks why don't you adapt the original GPU Cooler adding the monster cooler to it? usually the GPU cooler has more contact and takes heat out of more than one component of the board, using the old contact with the new cooler wolud give a better looking and more eficient build? why not try it out?
About the power suply: its not the high voltage the most concerning thing; the capacitors are usually the most dangerous thing to fail there and the problem is not only the towels, but the proximity to the motherboard, would not be better to put it in a separate bay under those fans for safety?

    • Lasse Reinlaufen
      Lasse Reinlaufen 20 days ago

you cant just stack a CPU cooler on top of the GPU heatsink. The cooling area of the original cooler is too small to make a difference anyways.

I just commented on your video for recycling a laptop screen into a second monitor. Really cool. Can you design an All in One PC using a recycled Laptop screen? Including touchscreen capability? And so I can choose my own motherboard, RAM etc? REALLY want to be able to essentially build my own laptop in that manner. You only have to add a wireless keyboard and mouse and whalaa a laptop and large tablet in one!

I've had flames coming out of the back of a faulty power supply, before, sir, and I'm also an electronics technician, so yes, I'm going to tell you that you're running a bit of a risk, there, kiddo. There's a reason we don't stuff fabric and flammable items into a breaker box. that's also one of the reasons I'll only buy from PC Power and Cooling from now on.

this would be a lot better if you added fans blowing right against the two heatsinks. this would probably reduce the temperatures by 10-20 degrees and let you run them at lower RPMs. I tried running a GPU with a fan around 10cm away from it and the same fan right against the heatsink, the "right against the heatsink" scenario had idle temperatures lower by 20 degrees.

    • Lasse Reinlaufen
      Lasse Reinlaufen 20 days ago

There are plastic shrouds to direct the airflow, wich basically makes it equal to having the fan right on the heatsink. This way, the fan can be mounted silently on the towel and there is positive pressure throughout the whole case.

About getting more cooling for GPUs, I was designing a PC for an Nvidia competition recently, and before I fully read the noise, my idea was to make a gigantic case with radial fan mounts, using the PCIe x16 extension cables. That way, you could mount 4 2.5 slot GPUs at the same time without limiting airflow.

  • Matteo R

Hi Matt, I've been watching videos on youtube since 2006 and never commented, but I really think this is the best video I've ever seen in my life! I've been trying to build a quiet pc for years and always failed. I've used water cooling putting the pump, heat exchanger and the fan in another room and connecting to the cpu cooling block with hoses. It worked but still the case needed its fans; I tried using it without any and after 1 month it got burnt!
I think your solution is so smooth, I will try to learn from you. The silent pc is a very critical point to me. Thanks for your video! Matteo

Whether I am nice or not is irrelevant to the facts I posted. There are companies with engineers that work to solve these problems and making a case out of wood and putting dry combustible dust-collecting material inside an insulation box with electronics is a huge fire hazard. Maybe if you live in the United Khaliphate of cucks were it's always a depressing cold raining place the case won't catch on fire, but you're talking to a global audience that live in different conditions and don't know any better than to emulate some rich kid on jewtube with too much time on his hands. Don't know what the fuck you mean by "may blossom" learn some fucking English. I kill butterflies since their larvae destroy gardens. Nice to know that fat pig of a cunt didn't break your hands so you could respond your little faggot cuck comment.

I had a NEW power supply that had a safety feature fail, smoke came out the back of the PC. Luckily I was there and yanked the plug out of the wall right away. The so called safety didn't function as advertised, one of my relatives in Germany had her apartment catch fire because her PC power supply sparked everywhere and set the curtains on fire.

Does no one else have extreme issues with the fact he's using towels? Sound insulating foam is lighter, more breathable, and better at sound insulation, I just honestly feel uncomfortable looking at it.

    • Lasse Reinlaufen
      Lasse Reinlaufen 20 days ago

sound insulation foam is much harder to work with and it is hard to make a solid fan mount out of it. The towels are just a very simple and cheap alternative.
