How to travel the world with almost no money | Tomislav Perko | TEDxTUHH

  • Added:  2 years ago
  • Many people daydream about traveling the world, but all of them have the same excuse - lack of money. Tomislav, after traveling the world for years with almost no money, shows how it is possible for everyone to do the same, if they really want to.

Tomislav Perko, 29, is a travel writer from Croatia. After a career of a stockbroker, broke because of the financial crisis, he hits the road and turns it into his home. He uses alternative ways of traveling – hitchhiking, couchsurfing, working/volunteering, and manages to wander around the world with just a little bit of money in his pocket, meeting the most amazing people on the way.

Five years later, he publishes a book “1000 Days of Spring” and goes around giving lectures about what it means to live on the road. Find out more on his website:

A few days ago i looked up the countries where indians can travel without applying for visa as they give visa on arrival. Searching through those countries i found bolivia, where i wanted to travel. It has even a weaker currency than indian rupee hence i was happy as it would be easier than travelling to expensive europe. But then the flight tickets itself costed a bomb about 1 lac rupees one way for the cheapest ticket. Upon searching for the reason, i found that not many people travel from india to south america, hence the ticket prices are so high. So its not always possible to travel without a lot of money. This guy talked about hitchhiking but not about the expense of air travel from one country to another, which is a huge expense

Lol at all the annoying 19-23 year-olds who think that after they've watched this video, they'll become expert travellers. As someone who has travelled quite often in their lifetime, I can assure you that many of the things this man are saying are either difficult or highly unrealistic. Start small, then work your way up. If you've rarely travelled and book a flight to the likes of Fiji or Southern California, it's a recipe for disaster. Just saying.

This only works if you're a white dude from a nice country. If you're POC, a woman, from the third world or all three like myself, good luck. I'd probably be ruined in just visa fees lol.

  • Mh4Productions
    Mh4Productions 15 days ago

According to all of these comments, I guess if you're a woman or if you have dark skin, you literally can't travel. I guess you guys gotta just stay at home; no opportunities are out there for you and your only safety is within your own home with your own people. (satire) I believe that this way of thinking is an impediment to one's ability to experience travel at it's most basic/least costly. Of course if you're a woman, there might be some creepy dudes out there looking to exploit your solitude. Simple fix: travel with friends or your partner... it's as simple as that. And even if you are alone, you can still have like, mace or something. Regarding the skin color issue... I don't necessarily think that that would matter, especially considering where you're traveling. I mean, even if you are being treated badly by the people in the car, at least you're IN the car; they didn't have to pick you up. Anyways, basically what I'm saying here is stop complaining. It's annoying to hear "oh only white males can do this" when this guy just wants to show you how to live a happy life. If you want to do it, do it. Don't let your worries or insecurities regarding demographics control your ability to travel. Stop whining about why you can't do it and how the world is terrible; do it and make the world a little less terrible.

Girls! Do travel if YOU want to. Yes take a friend, yes be smart about it and yes perhaps bring some (a lot of) pepperspay. But DO go out there. Explore the world. Get new experiences. Don't let them stop you just because you're a girl.

everyone loves girls even God himself! If it was safe for them these crazy little creatures of goodness would never be home...they would be wondering all over the globe for free and I would get so many to see! but Alas! everyone likes them too much and thats where the trouble lies.
if i was safe for them who could imagine charging them for a plane ticket, a ride, lift, meal or whatever, their company alone is a paycheck to guys like me. those ginger, gold, black haired tall or sort soft soft girls are never out of my head ever since I was 5. GOD!!!!
