What is Taurine and Why's It in My Energy Drink?

  • Added:  1 year ago
  • Energy drinks- you've had them, or at least you're well aware of their presence in today's culture. But what is actually in these things? Especially the mysterious ingredient TAURINE?

Taurine helps regulate how fast your electrons shoot in the brain. Hence, cognitive function. Also, help with dopamine production. There are many heart and cardio vascular benefits as well. This was not an informative video but lots of pretty colours (visually stimulating).

Energy drinks do nothing for me and frankly I have serious doubt that it's much different for people who think they help. A lot of it's in your head and I've seen placebo studies that prove this! (they are also overpriced and you're just wasting your money!) ...just eat a healthy balanced diet, sleep well, and stay active.

Ya, but then what is the source of taurine in energy drinks if it is not/no longer/never was bull semen? There seemed to be a glaring gap in the knowledge in this video where they just say it isn't from here but then never say where it is from, just where it can commonly be found.

when I'm starting to get a migraine like i do almost all the time. I drink an energy drink with taurine and a bottle of water and 7 out of 10 times my migraine fizzles out. Try it out the next time you get a really bad headache or even a migraine, it might just do the trick. look up the taurine cure link on google.

    • Maranwe
      Maranwe 1 month ago

I'd suggest to take the taurine in capsule form on its own... the other stuff in the energy drink would make, at least my, migrane even worse. I got my first migraine when I was 7,... my epilepsie with grand mal seizures only started when I was 25. Interestingly I've hadn't had a migraine since I'm taking my epilepsy-meds! (But don't tell anyone :P I sometimes still use it as an excuse *caugh :P )

    • Fox
      Fox 1 month ago

Wow, its a form of epilepsy!? That's a legitimate scary thought, I get bad headaches and migraines all the time. i read on the net that taurine might help and that it was in energy drinks so when i got a bad one i drank a rock star, bottle of water and downed 3 extra strength Motrin's for good measure. Within 10-15 minutes I could feel the migraine literally melting away. works about 75% of the time for me.
And no worries on the English, I read ya loud and clear. :)

    • Maranwe
      Maranwe 1 month ago

Thats because migrane is a form of epilepsy, and taurine does help against that! :) (sry for my engl)

So if it's hard to tell if Taurine is adding much - as an energy boosting ingredient, do we know what else Taurine might add as an ingredient in general? Don't think it could be good since it's found in breast milk. We already know animals need milk only at start of life, and that intake of milk in adult years is actually bad for health.

I dunno man, Taurine doesn't seem right to me, you know, like most of the stuff in our food and beverages. Sigh.

200mg caffeine tablets cost $0.05 each, which is about what's in one of those 16 ounce Rockstar drinks. I gave up energy drinks and just have some coffee and a half a five cent caffeine tablet and easily save $100 a month from not buying those ridiculously overpriced energy drinks.

The supplements industry does this all the time. They find some “miracle” compound, make shit up about it, which becomes the new folk wisdom, then market it with the legally required disclaimer. If the sheeple are willing to buy, and the FDA doesn’t see any harm, the supplements industry is more than willing to sell it.

Really? I always heard it used to mean any muscle tissue consumed as food. But it's good to know not every one does. Usage is key like you said.

    • BigRalphSmith
      BigRalphSmith 1 year ago

No, generally speaking, fish is _not_ considered to be "meat". Neither is bird flesh (poultry).
Of course, like any word, It doesn't have a "definition", it has a "usage" and the usage is the key.
If you use the word "meat" to indicate the flesh of any living animal, then fish and poultry is "meat' (and so would be just about any creature considered "living" that isn't part of the plant or fungi world).
Most often, the word "meat" is used to denote "mammalian flesh consumed as food".
Human language is not a hard and fast thing, Ben. That's why it changes over time.
