    Tesla should do a crate engine program, like Chevrolet, where you get a controller kit to unlock and program Motor and batteries. It can be simpler than the ones in Tesla cars and open source.

    Hey Sasha, awesome project but I hope your blue 3d printed brake master cylinder mount is just for mock up. I use 3d printers all the time but for something with that kind if force on it you need some machined aluminum. I like the Regen paddle idea though, might steal that one for my conversion!

    This is an interesting project, however I am afraid you will be disappointed. Of course it depends on your expectations, but as you probably figured out, there is no point pulling as much power as tesla does. Tesla rates the driveline at 90kW continuous.

    Does this guy know that independant traction control systems are available that are designed to give the car the most acceleration without much loss of grip? I've seen them used in time attack cars the most, but if your worried about feathering the throttle, these systems help launches and exiting corners. They don't bog the car like factory systems either.

An electric motor has a complex ECU, but it's not chemistry in which it has to monitor air, fuel, timing, and so forth to predict and control combustion, it's basically just controlling throttle input and electricity.

      Its shot in stereo on lav mics which means the audio is L & R. We tried the Lavs to reduce echo but the byproduct is the different levels.

    The best place for regenerative braking is fully integrated with the brake pedal. It's ergonomically best and also best in terms of safety to not have aggressive lift throttle oversteer, especially for non-racing-trained street drivers.

      Are you familiar with trailing throttle oversteer and why it's a bad thing, especially for untrained (non-racing) drivers? (If you're not a racer then the answer is probably "no" on both.) Regenerative braking on throttle lift potentially takes an existing problem and makes it much worse.

      I like it better blended with the accelerator... takes a little getting used to but feathering positive and negative torque with one foot becomes second nature... The one issue is it kind of biases you to ignore the brake and adds a split second to you hitting the brakes... you've got to register that the regen isn't going to be enough and consciously move your foot to the brake...

    Actually the biggest dumptruck in the world _(belaz 75710)_ uses 2 brake pedals, one for electric braking, one for mechanical brakes. It's a diesel+electric hybrid.

      You should stay in stereo but do it right.There's far too much separation, you should have it so there's less of a bias on left and right. Imagine you're standing where the camera is here in real life, you will hear slightly more on one side but the effect isn't very strong.

    This guy has no idea what he's talking about. He's actually got it backwards. Modern engine controllers are easily 10x more complicated than an inverter module / motor controller...

    Also, "it does its own immobilizer over CAN"

      ECUs have a lot of data points to cover, but it is not necessarily use complicated algorithms. Induction motors, especially high-power, are notoriously difficult to program for and control (i.e., complicated).

      The roadster was based off the Lotus Elise... with about 90% of the parts modified.... this project is based on the Elise's bigger brother the Evora... and there are advantages to that... for a project car more room to work and you need need more space/design weight to handle the high discharge PHEV cells.... A roadster isn't a head start on a project like this... it's more problems. Also... Tesla Roadsters aint cheap.

    the regen should not kick in totally with throttle up, instead it should be mixed with the brake pedal. Not sure of the ergonomics of having 2 brake controls. To mix the regen with the brake, the pedal should be active to give a smooth feedback between the regen torque and the brake pressure. a computer should decide for the driver so as soon as the braking need exceeds the regen potential power the brake kicks in instantly

      Cool is the only mod you need on a Tesla to make it full race car. No turbo's, supercharges, intake, exhaust, ignition, fuel pump non of that bullshit. Just cooling so it wont go in limp mode.
