I think you're wrong about Harry Potter, and for a couple reasons. First, while you weren't impressed with them, they definitely have enough of a fan following for them to just be completely dismissed. Some are much better than others, and some are pretty bad, I will concede. Second, I keep hearing remake of Harry Potter as a new movie series, and I think that's the wrong way to go about it. Game of Thrones is a shining example that high-budget fantasy series can be a thing, and I think that's what you really need for the Potter series. Just take a year and a half to film each book as a 8/10/12/16 episode series. And 3 is reguarded as one of the better movies, and 4 I remember being pretty crap. There's one scene that crams like 4 chapters worth of content into one scene.

Yes Styx you are right modern movies are "too preachy" nowadays it's like watching a secular version of Christian TV and movies (y'know like Bibleman). I don't even like that and I grew up watching Christian TV and movies (y'know Psalty, McGee and Me, Adventures In Odyssey, Left Behind - the first one).

At least when all this Social Justice fad is gone we should at least have some films, TV shows and comics to watch and read ironically (y'know like Mazes and Monsters, Dark Dungeons and Reefer Madness).

  • B.A. THOMPSONATOR - ActionRation

Hollywood has truly fucked themselves over with their politically correct and elitist worldviews. So many celebrities have completely exposed themselves to be insufferable idiots at this point and at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how much of a leftie or insufferable idiot every moron who's "making movies bro" is out in LA. The perception they give off is ALL of them are.

The funny part is they seem to think they're the only ones who can make movies or that they can execute subtlety to pump whatever ideology into their narratives without people beginning to seek alternative forms of entertainment.

Quite sad really. Movies used to be awesome.

What really disturbs me about the preachy left wing bullshit is how it has actually managed to infiltrate Europe like it has. I'll be honest. I thought I knew a good bit about the world. Thankfully we have these platforms where we ca actually talk to people from other areas & see what is normal. I really believe that the US is a last bastion in a sense for actual FREE SPEECH & FREE THOUGHT. Not the establishment. The system that was set up.

One kind of aside was the BBC TV 1983 adaptation of the classic Jane Eyre. Better than most romantic series in the sense that one could watch it over and over! The impeccable acting is long lost to history, well nearly. Yet it was a well crafted work and I highly recommend any longing you might hold for Charlotte Bronte's time and place in history.

If the Harry Potter stories were ever retold in a visual medium, it wouldn't be in the form of a traditional movie. I thought the Harry Potter films were about as good as they could be given the time constraints. If you want something that's truer to the books, you would have to expand to a larger medium like a television series. But there are all kinds of practical restraints to such a project. Children by law are restricted to only so many hours on the set, making a live-action series involving children as main characters very difficult to produce. I consider it something of a miracle that the Harry Potter films were made at all, given these realities. Granted, the series wouldn't have to span a lot of episodes per book to tell the story, but it would still be a challenge. Most important, it would be difficult to replicate the performances of many of the characters in the films, most notably Snape. (Alan Rickman will always be Snape.) The films were a who's who of English film and theater talent.

Movie theaters are trash, you cannot watch the movie in silence, there's always someone being annoyingly loud during the entire movie. Just buy a big tv with surround sound and a few classic movies and never go to to the theater anymore.
