Whoopi I love your work - Colbert and his joke was brilliant ...

but America does need to reign in a few 'freedom of speech' exploiters.

There is NOTHING "fair and balanced" about allowing your KKK to continue to exist without forcing science based education on them. There's nothing fair and balanced about your country toleratiing ignorance and private militia groups to exist.

But Colbert was bang on target.

Simple logic here. If the same thing was said about Obama and his family, people would be fined and fired, protests would be happening all over America, rioting and looting would be going on everywhere, BLM would be marching on Washington, etc. These liberals are over-aged, hypocritical immature bullies. Period. Oh and I am not a Trump supporter either. I'm just speaking the truth here. I don't like Trump, but he's our President, so I go to work and get on with life. Also this is obviously an abuse on the freedom of speech. People like Colbert really shouldn't be talking like that. It's disgusting. He should grow up, be a man, call up the President and sincerely apologize for what he said. But that will never happen, which sets a very bad example for America.

It was distasteful rant, yet a Constitutional Right to free speech. And I am a Trump Supporter. If the very bitter has been and wannabe actresses of the View would take a few deep breaths and calm themselves, they would find out Trump Supporters BELIEVE in the Constitution. Yet it is not the liberal way to actually consider different opinions. So, I will simply LOL at their out of control, hair on fire, spastic attempts to impeach a President that will be in office for at least 4 years, maybe more. What will they do if he gets reelected? Joy must be high if she really doesn't feel that referring to the mouth of the President of the United States of America as a "cockholster" is a dirty joke. She is actually comparing this to something that was said, and apologized for, over 16 years ago.

I have no issue with not liking our President. But for a group of people who seem to take offense at every word that comes out of our President's mouth, they seem pretty protective when the shoe is on the other foot.

These people talk about not being fired for what one says and hide behind the first amendment, yet I dare any of them to call their boss a "cockholster" and not suffer consequences. Yet Bill Oreilly was fired for referring to Maxine Waters' hair as a "James Brown wig."

    Where was the outcry then?

Just because you can say something, doesn't mean that you should.

Did I just hear this argument correctly?  Preface:  I am a lifelong Colbert watcher, and an independent voter who supports our current sitting president, and what his position stands for.  Ok, so these women are really saying that speech or saying something is "not an act", "its a joke", that President Trump "created this environment".    Lunacy.  Simply stated, this type of dialogue is why us in the center will never take another media pundit seriously.  Say what ever you want to fit your narrative, but if that was said by a Fox News reporter about The View's precious previous president Mr. Obama, these SAME WOMEN would have been arguing on the side of the isle saying that person should be fired.  President Trump did not create this environment.  He fed its narrative.  This environment will continue to exist long after he is gone.  Colbert spoke in a manner that is demeaning towards two heads of state.  He could have used many jokes, most of which are written for him, to get his point across.  He should be held responsible for his ACTions.

I highly doubt his days are numbered, he's actually doing pretty successful on the lefts PoV. His job is to make people laugh, and clearly, it worked for some people. Comedy is subjective, and there actually on the rise. You have to be on something to believe that what he said actually was him supporting homophobia. Not to mention the fact that you probably should put the most fucking powerful person in the world at higher standards than a satire comedian... you'd hope at least.

    • Mars2016
      Mars2016 3 months ago

Intensified Failure I detect a note of sarcasm in your comment but regardless the two are vastly different. First off colbert was on a different level in terns of vulgarity and he did it in front of millions. Trump did it in confidentiality with no more than a couple more people. Finally it is indeed locker room talk, guys do talk like this among each other and the profanity is meaningless. What colbert did was unforgivable. Integrity and character level of -100. Comedians these days have lost the plot. They think it's funny to use profanity like it's nothing because it's a "joke" in front of a national audience no less. Problem is Colbert is as funny as a plank of wood particularly as of late when his jokes seem to revolve around the same subject matter. I mean how many times are you gonna joke about Trump/Putin till it stops being funny. Tell you what it stopped being funny a long time ago, Colbert seems to have missed the memo and dug himself further into his comedic grave. Cultural trends survive only if they are inderpinned by logic and substance. Political comedians of this ilk will disappear as quickly as they surfaced. Colbert's days are numbered.

Stephen makes jokes. If all the celebrities would get together and use all their resources to actually make America great , I would care about what he says. We have to suffer under Trump's policies. Rich people don't! So people are talking about a joke I have no clue about. So Trump says idiotic things. It's who he is. He knows saying anything controversial will gain media attention. To stoop to Trump's level does not make anything better. It shows the power he has over others to anger them. The greatest power we have is to ignore. Stephen will probably get a little more attention now and we will all continue to see our wages stay stagnant while he becomes richer. Time to spend your money on helping others in your towns and cities and cutting off the funding to make these celebrities who talk and don't provide any service to society richer.

There is also another part of the story that nobody is reporting on...
It's a little know fact that Stephen Colbert himself is a sufferer of
lock jaw (so he's not thinking straight these days- no pun intended)
    Here's what happened:
Stephen Colbert AND Jimmy Kimmel long ago signed a contract whereby they
must use their very own mouths as c*** holsters for Hillary Clintons
"member" I think that this bad joke came from a real life experience
...and maybe its a cry for help???!!
But since they have sold their souls and succumbed to living the
remainder of their lives on their knees; they are no longer capable of
    reading the
pulse of the American People SO they don’t realize that they have
Its okay to have a political opinion if you're a celebrity but really
all we want is for you to entertain us...that’s your role....when you

I've watched Colbert's monologue every single night that his program has been on, for quite some time now. I didn't like his old program on Comedy Central at all, but he's been excellent IMHO, ever since he succeeded David Letterman as the host of The Late Show. I've frequently had to LOL and nearly ROFL at his biting, occasionally acerbic, and unfailing skewering of Trump's incompetent and dangerous pomposity. That said, I personally was shocked, offended, angry and disappointed in Colbert's clearly homophobic comments. I don't think that he is necessarily a homophobe in his heart, but he ought to do some serious introspection and realize what he should have known before he made those remarks on live TV. It's especially troubling to me that he did it in the context of his stated intent that night. He was speaking directly to President Trump as he looked into the camera and told the president that because he insulted a friend of Colbert, he was going to return the favor and insult Trump. He then set off on a series of sometimes funny, sometimes not, deliberate insults, which overall seemed to me to be treading a fine line, and I am clearly not a fan of Donald Trump in any way. But when Colbert delivered what he obviously intended as his coup de grâce insult to Trump, he dived deep into the cesspool of homophobia's darkest pejoratives and came up with the worst of the worst homophobic epithets possible, and hurled it with a vengeance toward Trump with disdain for his perceived subservience to Putin. He got a big laugh from the studio audience, but absolutely not from me. It felt like a knife had been thrust into my heart; a feeling I’ve felt so often, from childhood to present day. I grew up in the 50s and 60s as a gay person who was closeted for self-preservation in an era when homophobia was not only acceptable, it was state-sponsored. I was well into adulthood in my mid 20s before Illinois became the first state to repeal laws that made consensual sex between two persons of the same gender a felony, punishable by imprisonment in some cases up to life. One of the most painful things for me emotionally, as far back as elementary school days, was whenever a friend would casually make the same homophobic remark that Colbert made. It was always made with contempt and disgust for the sexual act that it referenced as a pejorative. It wasn’t intentionally directed at me. It never was. With only a couple of exceptions, no one knew I was gay until I outed myself in my early 30s to keep my sanity and essentially tell the world, “Hey, I’m gay. Get over it!” I know that my thoughts and sensitivity to the comments Colbert made, aren’t shared by everyone, or even by many other gays. Words have meanings and words matter. Colbert’s remarks were aimed at Trump. He missed his target and broke my heart instead. Should Colbert be fired for it? No, absolutely not.
